Biography

Kim is an Astrophysics PhD, MBA and Entrepreneur. She is the CEO of Pivigo; supporting organisations to innovate with data by connecting them with a global community of the best and brightest freelancing data scientists. She is passionate about people, data and connecting the two.

Rob studied Engineering, Economics and Management degree at Oxford University graduating in 2007 with First Class Honours. Prior to founding Mindful Chef in 2015, he worked as an Interest Rate Options trader at Morgan Stanley where he ran the Exotic Derivatives trading desk in New York. In 2018, he was nominated as one of the top 30 UK entrepreneurs under the age of 35 by Startups.co.uk. In 2020, Mindful Chef was awarded ‘SME of the Year’ in the National Business Awards.

 A Recipe for Innovation: Recommending Recipes Based on Adventurousness

Mindful Chef is a health-focused company that delivers weekly recipe boxes. In order to create a more personalised experience for their customers, they teamed up with Pivigo to develop an innovative recommender system. In this talk we will tell about this project and the development of a novel approach to understanding user taste that had an unexpectedly large impact on recommendation accuracy. We will further share the challenges of implementing the solution, the impact on the business of the system running live for six months, and further data science projects developed in parallel with implementation.
