Vakaris Baškirov is the Head of Data at Humbility, an algorithmic crypto trading firm based in Vilnius, where he leads the data engineering and data infrastructure function, supporting more than 40 quantitative researchers who build statistical and machine learning (ML) models for algorithmic trading.He has led multiple petabyte-scale greenfield data platform projects and specializes in open-source data technologies and on-premises infrastructure. He has previously worked in data engineering, data platform engineering, and DevOps roles.

<p>He will walk through the key decisions that led Humbility to build a petabyte-scale data platform on premises using open-source technologies such as Apache Spark, Apache Iceberg, and ClickHouse. He will explore the architecture, the trade-offs, and the challenges encountered along the way.</p>
