Luis Voloch is Senior Machine Learning Scientist, developing cutting edge Machine Learning tools tailored to the unique challenges presented by Genomic scale data. Luis studied at MIT for his undergraduate and graduate degrees (in Mathematics and CS, respectively), and co-received the Best Thesis award in CS among all PhD-track students.

Machine Learning and Genetics

In the recent past, the field of genomics has made major progresses in pinpointing DNA features that are associated with certain diseases and conditions, such as heart illnesses, cancer, and psychiatric disorders. However, only a relatively small variance of these traits in the population is currently explained, which limits their applicability. In this talk, we will explore the importance of developing better models for such problems and how Machine Learning can help with these and related challenges.
